The Common Riding Haggis

by Lyndsay Lindores of St Joseph's Primary School

Introduction by Scott Brodie

Each major town in the Scottish borders celebrates "Common Riding", an ancient tradition whereby townsfolk ride around the burgh boundaries (the Marches), imitating their ancestors who did the same hundreds of years ago to check that cross-border raiders hadn't violated any boundary crossings or markings.
Lyndsay's story is written in Selkirk Scots, a specific dialect of the area.
